Heard

Author’s Note: This is a creative piece on the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I am writing this piece to show my knowledge of analysis, by analyzing the main character Melinda. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Heard

There are many things in this world,
Many thing that, often fall astray.

Melinda is one of those things.

For someone who used to,
Have it all,
Melinda knows the taste of betrayal.

O how strong she was,
The way she held her head high,
Like nothing could ever hurt her,
But o how she was wrong.

It all started that faithful night,
Smoke was in the air,
And being naive was the motto.

That’s how it all happened.

She never saw it coming,
And no matter how loud she screamed,
Nothing ever came out.

So he took her innocence captive.

She lost everything,
Her friends,
Reputation,
But most of all herself.

Still Melinda stays silent,
And people don’t realize the truth,
All they know is that she called the cops,
Not nearly the full story.

But wait there’s a light…

At the end of a tunnel it shines…
At once Melinda can feel,
Feel its presence.
Even now more than ever.

She makes her way toward it…

Pulling it in with all her might,
She is set free.
And at last…

Her voice can be heard
