Lesson's Learned

Author's Note: This is a descriptive poem about the story Thank You Ma'am by Langston Hughes, explaining the "Lesson's Learned" in this story. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

It all starts with an act.
A name and a face,
he watched her carefully.
Stalking her every move.
Leaping from the bushes
he takes hold of the strap.
Snatching her belongings.
But gets caught in the act.
With a kick and a stare,
the boy feels despair.
A change of heart,
swipes the woman's face.
She drags him home,
attentions pure.
Washes his face
and feeds his hunger.
Gives him a teaching,
a lesson learned.
Then sends the boy off,
to show the world.
Lesson's learned
that shall be shown.
A heart of pureness,
now lives within the boy.
Mrs. Luetta Bates Jones,
purifies the boy.

This poem really shows my feelings of a lesson learned for myself personally reading this story. Mrs. Luetta Bates Jones, teaches this boy through her own life lessons. Shows this boy the rights and wrongs in the world and changes his life forever.
