Arrogance is Blind

Arrogance is blind

Author’s Note: This is a poem that re-tells the story “Dead Man’s Walk,” by Chinua Achebe, but in the form of a poem. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

With duty comes responsibility,
With love there comes trust.
With passion come fundamentals,
With arrogance a hiding.
Arrogance is blind.
A path to remembrance,
But something in the way.
Duty is forgotten,
And shall remain that way.
Arrogance is blind.
A man’s reputation,
Proves lower than he thinks.
The town’s people are angry
And so they’re at their brink.
Arrogance is blind.
The battle is just beginning
And arrogance will lose the war.
For nothing can change
The bitterness to the core.
Arrogance is blind.
A man is left wondering
What would be today.
If he took the path himself
His arrogance would go away.
Arrogance is blind.
